Purpose & Perspective
What was the most challenging experience in your life? Radical career change, health crisis, financial collapse, addiction, relationship drama or abuse?
These things are not easy. The clock seems to slow down, allowing us to swim in the anxiety of uncertainty. Fear sets in, and we can feel helpless, believing that there is no way out. In this state, we feel stuck in a pattern of perpetual agony, wondering when we will get our break.
We feel lonely and depressed, praying for some lottery-like reversal to beam down from the palm of that grey-haired vending-machine-of-God in the sky. At risk of flying in the face of your religious beliefs, I say - “Don’t hold your breath.” There is no magic vending machine in the sky, sitting on a throne in “man” form, like Albus Dumbledore. Instead, I believe that this Source of infinite wisdom resides just behind your eyes, always seeing what you see. (and not just with your eyes)
Call It God, Allah, Yahweh, Universe or Nature, I am not blaspheming Spirituality. Quite the contrary, it was in my darkest moments that I discovered that we are not alone! Like many of you, I have countless stories to share about being trapped, dropping to my knees and PLEADING for a solution after exhaustive efforts of hope.
Life hurdles in the form of betrayal, abuse, lawsuits and financial crisis. Every single one of these and other experiences were dark and ugly times until I uncovered a system of being, a way of thinking, acting and feeling that shifted my perspective entirely. I learned that praying on my knees was not the last action for escaping the darkness.
Prayer is the mere talking to the Omniscient, meditation is to quiet your busy mind and listen to that still small voice. What’s next is the most important part. We must pray with our feet. The most meaningful challenge I had for understanding this, is knowing when it your voice, and what is “God talking to you”. When you are weak, vulnerable and overwhelmed, trusting a small voice or nudge is not as simple as it sounds.
So how will you know?..
What I call my 3-G’s, have proven to harness those challenges, and use them as my superpower. Not my shield against them, (now knowing to appreciate them) rather to put my attention on my level of gratitude, how much I am giving (or forgiving), and what growth I was craving in order to attract these lessons.
Expecting to find the good in the muck takes practice. If you expect to be immediately appeased by naming it growth, you will be disappointed. This step takes faith in something greater than you. In the beginning It takes retrospect, but with a simple exercise, you will learn that your inner-connection to your God has been the cause of those things happening for you, not to you.
I hope you’ll join me on this significant journey to enhancing your perspective. Sharing this life-enhancing 3-G tool has resonated with me as my Ultimate Purpose. To help me to discover the difference between being a mere “Pollyanna”, and a the fortified optimist (that loves to share) that I have become.
Join me on this evolving conversation at my blog Perspectives. Here, I will break down the elements of the book I am now authoring called “Perspectives - The Science of Making Shift Happen”.
Both the book and blog will be steeped in these three keys to shifting from a victim of circumstance to life-enhancing accountability.
• Learn to appreciate your challenges by changing your state to Gratitude.
• Delve deeper into the true purpose and meaning of Giving and more-so forgiving.
• Increase your awareness (and accountability), and notice your perpetual Growth.
We are Spiritual beings having a human experience in a spiral universe. I hope you will join me on the upward spiral of enjoying more in our lives, while serving others with the opportunity to have it better for themselves as well.
