Portraits with Purpose

My first two decades as a professional photographer taught me a great deal about the importance of what I didn’t know. After exploiting every class available to me in high school - even creating a new one as a hybrid art student, I sought a professional mentor.

He kept trying to teach me about studio lighting, while I kept pulling him back to my intent to be “The Next Ansel Adams.” (shoot for the stars, right?..) After I declined his offer to inherit his life’s work, his thriving studio in Pendleton Oregon, he gifted me a box full of professional gear. A medium format camera, lenses, lights etc.

He knew that I needed to discover a few things on my own before I could begin to prove him correct. That I did have a knack for relating people that could make me a great portrait photographer by continuing to “…shoot your scenics, just put people in front of them!” (CLICK HERE if you’re interested in seeing how that story played out)

As if he saw online booking calendars through a crystal ball, tech has proven him right. I have a fulltime “day job” as Studio B Photography - a “studio photographer” that goes anywhere, operating by appointment only. Freedom to move about and keep my creative juices flowing.

Those first 20 years gave me the rudiments to now enjoy a simplistic flow. To extract authenticity from my subjects with ease, both indoor and out. To explore on my weekends and to travel abroad - all choosing my favorite photo subject - NATURE, and hammering away on these keys about my observations on growth-filled living.
